Your Guide to Images Your Followers Will Love

Social media was created for the sharing of visual content. Think about it! Since the beginning of online networking sites, social media images have played an integral role in how people connect with one another via the internet.

Social media pioneers like MySpace and Flickr developed their sites with images in mind. Customizable profiles allowed users to express their personality by uploading images of themselves, changing the colors of their profile page, and creating virtual photo albums. Today, social media images have taken over the world wide web. Platforms like Instagram, Snapchat and Pinterest make visual content their primary focus. So how can you make sure your social media graphics are magnetic enough to capture the attention of users who are bombarded with pictures every day?

There are a few tricks you can use! We’ve highlighted them below.

1. Consider Your Colors

When you create images for social media, the psychology of color should be at the top of your mind. Why? Because in a recent study, it was discovered that approximately 90 percent of people who make a quick judgement about an online brand make that decision based on color alone. The colors you choose to represent your business send subliminal messages to those who interact with your brand. So, you want to make sure you choose your colors wisely. Did you know that 33 percent of the world’s top brands use blue in their logo? Or that sticking to a particular color scheme can increase your brand awareness by as much as 80 percent? When taking a photo to share on your company’s online profiles, think about color. Visit the Instagram accounts of brands like Bud Light and Heinz and take note of how they incorporate their trademarked colors into their social media images. How can your business do the same?

2. Utilize Icons

Many brands use their logo or other graphic elements associated with their brand to make themselves even more memorable to online viewers. When taking photos to be used as social media images, try to include your logo in the shot (check out the official Starbucks Instagram account for inspiration on how to do this) or add it into your photos later using a graphic design program (see Nutella’s Instagram account for ideas). The more your branded graphic design elements are included in your social media posts, the more easily internet users will identify with your business. And after all, isn’t that why you create images for social media in the first place?

3. Get Creative
